# Accessibility

What has been done to make this site usable, what is still imperfect, and how to ask for something you need.

## The Intent

People often arrive at a site like this one tired, distracted, or reading on a phone in a parking lot between shifts. The aim is a site that stays readable in those conditions and does not require a mouse, good eyesight, or a fast connection to get through.

The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard the site is built against rather than a certification anyone has awarded it.

## What Has Been Built In

- Semantic headings in order, with one page title per page, so screen reader users can move by heading.
- Every link and form control reachable and operable with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Text contrast checked against the palette, and no meaning carried by color alone.
- Body text that reflows and stays legible when you zoom the page or enlarge the type.
- Descriptive alt text on images that carry meaning, and empty alt on images that are purely decorative.
- Form fields with real labels, plain error text, and a form that still submits without JavaScript.
- Scroll animations that respect the reduced motion setting in your operating system and show the finished state immediately.

## Known Limits

No site is finished. Accessibility here is checked by hand and with automated tools rather than by an independent audit, so it is likely that something has been missed, particularly on newer pages. If you hit a page that will not work with your assistive technology, that is a defect and it will be fixed.

Sessions run on a third-party secure video platform. Its interface is not built by this practice and its accessibility is outside my control, so if you use a screen reader, switch access, or captions, say so at the consultation and we will work out the setup before your first appointment rather than during it.

## Accommodations in the Work Itself

ART uses eye movements, so it is reasonable to wonder whether it is available to you if your vision, eye control, or attention works differently. There are alternatives to visual tracking that can be used, and whether they suit you is a conversation, not a form. Bring it up at the free consultation and I will be straight with you about what can be adapted and what cannot.

If something on this website is in your way, or you would rather ask a question by phone than by form, the contact page has both. Tell me what you ran into and what would work better for you.

This is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.

This practice is not a crisis or emergency service, and messages are not monitored around the clock. If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health emergency, or having thoughts of ending your life with intent or a plan, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room for an assessment. Veterans can press 1 after dialing 988.

Contacting this practice does not establish a client relationship. Individual outcomes vary. Nothing on this site guarantees a specific clinical result.
