It is waking at three and lying there with your heart going. It is a smell in a stairwell putting you somewhere else for half a second. It is choosing the seat facing the door without deciding to, scanning a parking lot before you get out, and reading every shift in someone else tone as the beginning of something. Then there is the avoidance, which is the part that quietly shrinks a life. A street you no longer drive. A hospital you will not walk into, even for someone else. A relative you stopped seeing because they were there. People often present that avoidance as preference, because it is easier than saying the memory still has that much say. None of that means anything is broken in you. It means a memory got stored while your body was in survival mode, and it is still being filed as current. ## How the Work Addresses It We do not start with your whole history. We start with one target: a specific image, often the worst frame, or the moment just before. Using eye movements while you hold that image, we work on the physical charge attached to it first, then on the picture itself. You keep the knowledge of what happened. The intrusion is what we are after. You will not be asked to give a detailed account out loud. For many Louisville adults who tried therapy after an assault, a wreck on the Watterson, a death, or years of something at home, the retelling was the reason they stopped going. Working without narration changes the math on whether it is worth starting again. I will not tell you how many sessions this takes. Anyone who does is guessing. We check after each one and you decide what is next. ## Telehealth Only in Louisville There is no office. I do not see anyone in person in Jefferson County or anywhere else. Sessions are by secure video and you need to be physically in Kentucky or Ohio during the appointment, since those are the states where I hold a license. For people with post-traumatic stress that is often an advantage. You are already in a place you have decided is safe, and there is no drive home afterwards with your nervous system still running warm. Adults only, private pay. This is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis.
