Who I Work With

# Who I Work With

Adults who are used to being the steady person in the room, and who are not at all used to being the person who needs something.

## The Thread Running Through All of This

Most of the people I see are competent in a way other people rely on. They are the one called at 2 a.m., the one who stays calm while everyone else is not, the one whose colleagues assume is fine because they have never seen otherwise.

That competence is real. It is also the reason help gets postponed for years. If your identity is built around handling it, asking for something looks like an admission, and there is usually no obvious moment when the situation becomes bad enough to justify a phone call.

What these groups do not share is the shape of what they carry, or the reason each one hesitates. So I have written them separately.

## Six Groups, Written Separately

[

First Responders

Police, fire, EMS and dispatch. The calls that stayed, and a culture that does not make room for saying so.

Veterans

Service that ended and a nervous system that did not stand down. Civilian life at a different tempo.

](/who-i-work-with/veterans)[

EMTs, ER and Healthcare Workers

Cumulative exposure that never looked like one event, carried between rooms without a pause.

Therapists

Clinician to clinician, including the awkward part about being the one in the other chair.

Doctors

Physicians and surgeons, residents and attendings. The decision, the outcome, and the case that stays.

Corporate Leaders

Senior leaders read by everyone else for reassurance, with no peer in the building to say it to.

You do not have to belong to one of these groups to work with me. If you are an adult in Kentucky or Ohio and something specific is not settling, that is enough of a reason to make the call.

## How I Work With All of Them

Accelerated Resolution Therapy, by secure video, in 60-minute sessions or as an extended intensive. It is directive and it works toward targets you name, which suits people who would rather do something than describe something.

You control how much you say out loud. Detailed narration is not required, and that matters to people whose work has already required them to give a full account of the worst thing they saw.

## What This Practice Is Not

- Not fitness for duty evaluations, return to work clearances, disability paperwork or forensic opinions.
- Not an employee assistance program and not affiliated with any department, agency or hospital system.
- Not medication management, which stays with your prescriber.
- Adults only, by secure video in Kentucky and Ohio.

This is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.

## A free fifteen-minute consultation.

Fifteen minutes by video or phone, no charge. You describe what is going on, I tell you how I would approach it and answer questions about ART. Nothing is worked on in that call and you decide afterward.

This practice is not a crisis or emergency service, and messages are not monitored around the clock. If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health emergency, or having thoughts of ending your life with intent or a plan, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room for an assessment. Veterans can press 1 after dialing 988.

Contacting this practice does not establish a client relationship. Individual outcomes vary. Nothing on this site guarantees a specific clinical result.
