Who I Work With

# Therapy for Veterans

The service ended. The readiness did not. For veterans who want to work on specific material rather than tell the whole history again.

## Home, at a Different Tempo

Out here nothing is urgent and nothing quite matters at the same weight, and that turns out to be its own problem. You are back, the job is fine, and part of you is still running the standing orders: check the exits, drive the middle lane, keep the vehicle behind you in view, do not sit with your back to a door.

Fireworks in July, a garbage truck at 5 a.m., a smell coming off a grill, and your body is somewhere else before your judgment gets a vote. Sleep is short. Crowds cost more than they used to. Some of what surfaces is not fear at all: it is a decision you are still turning over, or the fact that you miss the clarity and cannot say that to anyone at home.

Meanwhile you may miss the unit more than the war, and civilian friends have no frame for either.

## Why Veterans Tell Me They Waited

Two reasons come up over and over. The first is having told the story already, to intake staff, to a claims process, to a provider who rotated out six months later, and having gotten nothing back for the telling except a worse week afterward. The second is a straightforward reluctance to be a patient at all.

ART is directive and it works on targets, not on your biography. You bring one memory and we work it. You are not asked to give me a chronological account of a deployment, and you are not required to say the details out loud for the session to move. For people who are done narrating, that is usually the deciding factor.

## What a Session Looks Like Here

We pick one target and stay on it. You hold the image while I guide the eye movements and track what your body is doing, and afterward we check the same image so you can judge for yourself what moved.

Sessions are 60 minutes by secure video, and up to three hours as [an ART intensive](/art-intensives), which some veterans prefer because it fits how they would rather do anything difficult: once, deliberately, with the whole block set aside for it. This is private pay practice, entirely separate from any benefits process, and I do not create records for a claim.

## What This Is Not, and When It Is Not the Fit

- Not a disability evaluation, and I do not write nexus letters, rating opinions or documentation for a claim.
- Not affiliated with any government agency or veteran service organization.
- Not medication management, which stays with your prescriber.
- Not a promise of any result, and never a promised number of sessions.
- Adults only, by secure video in Kentucky and Ohio.

This is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.

## Fifteen minutes, no charge, no file opened.

A short call by video or phone. Ask what you want about how ART runs. You do not have to give me your service history, and you do not have to name the memory you would bring.

This practice is not a crisis or emergency service, and messages are not monitored around the clock. If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health emergency, or having thoughts of ending your life with intent or a plan, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room for an assessment. Veterans can press 1 after dialing 988.

Contacting this practice does not establish a client relationship. Individual outcomes vary. Nothing on this site guarantees a specific clinical result.
