Online Therapy in South Carolina

Telehealth only, for adults anywhere in the state. I work in South Carolina under a telehealth registration, which means every session is by secure video and there are no in-person appointments.

South Carolina is a video-only state for this practice. My South Carolina registration with the Board of Social Work Examiners covers telehealth, so I can work with adults who are physically located in the state at the time of the session. I cannot offer office visits, home visits or any other in-person appointment in South Carolina, and I keep no address there.

For a great deal of the state that is the practical option anyway. Between Charleston, Columbia and Greenville there is a lot of country, and the list of clinicians trained in a specific trauma protocol has always been shorter than the list of clinicians taking new adults.

There is a quieter reason people prefer video. In a small town the parking lot is public information, and being seen walking into a counseling office where you also work, teach or run a business stops people from going at all.

Who Reaches Out From South Carolina

A mix that reflects the state: police, fire and EMS in counties where the same handful of people answer every call, hospital and EMS staff around the larger metros, veterans in a state with a long military presence, and adults carrying one specific event from years back that the local options never touched.

Phobia work comes up often, and driving is a large part of it, because on I-26 and I-95 there is no version of your life that does not involve the car. So does medical fear, when the nearest hospital is far enough that postponing a scan is easy to justify for another year.

The Practical Details for South Carolina Clients

You need to be physically in South Carolina at the time of the session. That is a regulatory rule rather than a preference, and it applies even if you live here and happen to be out of state that week.

Sessions are 60 minutes by secure video, or up to three hours as an ART intensive, also by video. You need a private spot and a device that stays still, since the work uses eye movements. Rural connection quality varies and we plan for that in advance rather than improvising mid-session.
