What the Protocol Actually Does

Accelerated Resolution Therapy works on the picture in your head and the sensation in your body, in that order. We settle on a target, usually a single image rather than a whole era of your life, and I guide sets of smooth horizontal eye movements while you hold it. The physical part tends to loosen first: the jaw, the throat, the pressure behind the sternum.

Then we work with the image itself. You get to replace what you see with something you choose, and the factual record of what happened is untouched. You will still know your own history. The difference people report is that recalling it stops feeling like being dropped back into it.

You are not required to describe the content out loud. I need enough to know what we are aiming at and how it is landing. That is a large part of why the method suits people who have never wanted to sit and tell the story to a stranger.

Why Cincinnati Adults Ask About It

Cincinnati has real depth of clinical care, two large health systems and a university that trains people. That is not usually the problem. The problem is that a specific protocol is a narrower search than a specific city, and the wait for a clinician who runs one can be a season long.

The other thing I hear is fatigue with open-ended work. People come having already done a stretch of talk therapy, sometimes years of it, and having found it genuinely useful for understanding themselves and not useful at all for the one memory that still wakes them. ART is narrower than that on purpose. It has a target and a shape.

Sessions run 60 minutes, or up to three hours as an intensive when you would rather give it one long block than protect a weekly slot for a season. Nobody is promised a number of sessions, here or anywhere else on this site.

There Is No Cincinnati Office

Not downtown, not in Norwood, not anywhere. This is a telehealth practice, adults only, private pay. You need to be physically in Ohio or Kentucky at the time of the session, a private room, and a device that stays still, since the work depends on tracking eye movements.

This is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.

Everything here is by secure video, so where you are in Cincinnati makes no difference to the work. These are the other things I am most often asked about locally.
