Being There Counts
This region has had years where difficult things happened in public, and one thing I hear often from people here is a version of I was not really involved, so I should be over it. You were in the building. You were two streets away. You were the one refreshing your phone trying to reach somebody.
Proximity is not a ranking system, and the nervous system does not check whether you qualified. If the memory is still running in the present tense, it is worth working on, whatever your position was relative to it.
Service, and What Came After
With a major installation in the area, plenty of the adults who reach out have served or work alongside people who have. Some are decades out. What they describe is usually not the deployment as a whole but one specific fifteen seconds of it, or something that happened stateside that nobody counts as combat and that has stayed just as loud.
I am in private practice and I am not affiliated with any base program, any federal agency or any employer. I do not write evaluations, disability documentation or letters for any third party. What we do is treatment, and nothing about it goes into a file that anyone else reads.
How the Sessions Run
We choose one target. Eye movements while you hold it, the physical charge down first, then the image replaced with something you pick. We check before closing so nothing is left standing open when the hour ends.
Sixty minutes, or up to three hours as an intensive. You do not have to describe what you saw out loud. Adults only, private pay, and I will tell you plainly if I think a different level of care fits better.
This is not a crisis service.
If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.
