Phobia Treatment in Lexington, KY
One fear, treated directly. For adults in Lexington who have built a life around avoiding a single thing.
Fear After Something Physical Went Wrong
In this part of Kentucky a familiar version is fear around horses after a fall or a kick. Somebody who has ridden since they were six finds their hands going cold in the aisle of a barn they have worked in for years. They are not confused about the risk. They know exactly what happened, they know most days are fine, and the body still refuses.
The other fears people bring are the usual set and no less limiting. Needles and blood draws, which turn a routine order into a year of postponement. Flying, when a conference or a family event needs it. Storms, dogs, elevators, small rooms, the dentist chair. Sometimes the fear followed one clear incident. Sometimes it has been there since childhood with nothing attached to it.
What We Actually Do With It
We work with the image, not with argument. Bring the scene that plays: the fall, the needle going in, the plane at the moment the wheels leave. While you hold it, sets of eye movements are used to work on the physical response first, and then on the picture itself, which you get to change.
There is no ladder of homework assignments between sessions and no requirement to confront the real thing on a schedule set by me. When people do go back to the barn or the airport, it tends to be because they wanted to, not because it was assigned.
Nothing here is guaranteed and nothing gets deleted. Sensible caution around a large animal or a real hazard is worth keeping. What we are after is the reaction that is out of proportion to the situation in front of you.
Where the Sessions Happen
Nowhere physical. I am telehealth only, with no Lexington office and no in-person appointments, and you need to be inside Kentucky or Ohio at the time of the session.
A private room, a screen that stays put and an uninterrupted hour is the whole setup. Adults only, private pay.
This is not a crisis service.
If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.
Also in Lexington
Everything here is by secure video, so where you are in Lexington makes no difference to the work. These are the other things I am most often asked about locally.
Tell me what you are avoiding.
Fifteen free minutes. If the fear is tangled up with something larger, I will say so rather than sell you a single session.
