Therapy for First Responders in Columbus, OH
For sworn officers, firefighters, medics, dispatchers and corrections staff across Franklin County and the suburbs.
Dispatch Counts Too
A lot of this work in Columbus involves people who were never on scene. Telecommunicators hear the whole thing and see none of it, stay on the line through the worst two minutes of somebody's life, and then take the next call in the queue with no walk back to a vehicle in between. The material lands, and there is rarely a debrief that includes the room.
For officers, medics and firefighters the pattern is different in content and similar in effect. A handful of runs stop being past events. They stay current, and they show up in sleep, in temper, in a reflex to scan every room you walk into off duty.
Who Sees the File
Nobody in your agency. I am in private practice, hold no contract with any department, union, city, county or employer program in Ohio or Kentucky, and I do not send reports about your care to anyone. Your record is mine.
I also do not do evaluative work. No fitness-for-duty opinions, no return-to-work letters, no assessments written for a third party. That boundary is deliberate. It means the hour is yours and nothing you say in it is being collected for a decision somebody else is making about your career.
Scheduling Around Rotations
Everything is by secure video and there is no Columbus office. That means no drive downtown on a day off and no waiting room where you might run into somebody from the academy. Adults only, private pay, and you need to be physically in Ohio or Kentucky.
Sessions are 60 minutes, or up to three hours as an intensive. For people on twelves and rotating nights, one long block after a stretch usually works better than a standing weekly appointment that a mandatory hold will eventually eat.
This is not a crisis service.
If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. ART is not appropriate during active psychosis or acute crisis. Individual outcomes vary.
Also in Columbus
Everything here is by secure video, so where you are in Columbus makes no difference to the work. These are the other things I am most often asked about locally.
Fifteen minutes, no paperwork first.
Ask about confidentiality, about what a session involves, about anything.
